“92, 93, 94, 95 all were quite unique variations of each other for Jungle with bleed throughs of influence from the previous years.
93 was really considered the first year of the sound (mc’s were also calling it drum n bass, I don’t think there was any real differentiation yet) The more ‘junglistic’ vibe found in 92 Hardcore & what was also being labeled Jungle Techno & Darkcore came into its own in 93 and for the most part was dark, ravey & hardcore oriented. If it was lighter then it had more of a dreamy Bukem vibe to it (like the first track) otherwise it ventured more into Happy Hardcore which eventually split the sound altogether, as junglists didn’t want to be associated with the ‘cheese’ although to be fair they went hand in hand for a while.”
“Ragga Jungle & Hardstep Drum n Bass developed more as a proper sound in 94-95 & of course it all really started changing again in 96-97 with guys like Aphrodite doing that 2-step drum n bass thing which was cool for a bit but after tech-step kicked in I really lost interest. Like house and techno it never really moved forward much with minor exceptions – if anything it’s all going back to these days again & again :-)”
“Enough of my rant, enjoy the mix & feedback always appreciated ;-)” – Ben Walton
